About Steinberg Cubase
Steinberg is a music software company headquartered in Hamburg, Germany, founded in 1984 by Karl Steinberg and Manfred Rürup. Its flagship DAW Cubase was released in 1989 as a MIDI sequencer and added digital audio recording in 1992; Steinberg also defined the VST plug-in interface (1996) and the ASIO audio driver protocol that became industry standards. Cubase is sold in Pro, Artist and Elements editions for Windows and macOS, with deep MIDI editing, audio recording, score editing and a large bundled instrument and effects collection. Steinberg has been a wholly owned subsidiary of Yamaha since 2005.
