sonnen is a battery-storage and home-energy company founded in 2010 in the Bavarian village of Wildpoldsried by Christoph Ostermann and Torsten Stiefenhofer. Its sonnenBatterie lithium-ion home storage products combine with rooftop solar, electric vehicles and heat pumps, and customers can join the sonnenCommunity virtual power plant to share renewable energy. The company is headquartered in Wildpoldsried, Germany, and operates internationally with subsidiaries in Australia, Italy and the United States. Since March 2019 sonnen has been a wholly-owned subsidiary of Shell New Energies, after a $1.2bn acquisition.
