About Marginalia Search

Marginalia Search is an independent open-source search engine launched in 2021 by Swedish software engineer Viktor Löfgren. It deliberately favours small, text-heavy, non-commercial websites and downranks pages with heavy ads, trackers or affiliate links; users can also filter results by JavaScript usage or affiliate-link presence. Each result includes a small visualisation of where keywords appear on the page and a link to detailed information about the site. The project has no investors and runs on donations, NLnet grants and modest commercial API deals; it is operated single-handedly out of Sweden.
