About Ecosia

Ecosia is a Berlin-based not-for-profit search engine founded in 2009 by Christian Kroll. It uses Bing as its primary results provider, runs on renewable energy and channels essentially all of its profits into climate action — the company has financed the planting of around 250 million trees in 35+ countries and committed more than €92 million to reforestation, regenerative agriculture, biodiversity and renewable-energy projects. Ecosia is free to use, with no subscription; ad revenue funds the impact. In 2024 it co-founded the European Search Perspective joint venture with Qwant to build an EU-owned search index.
