STACKIT is the German sovereign cloud operated by Schwarz Digits, the IT division of the Schwarz Group (Lidl, Kaufland), launched in 2018 and headquartered in Heilbronn. Built on OpenStack, it offers compute, block and object storage, managed Kubernetes, managed databases, a developer toolchain and Windows/Red Hat servers across three availability zones near Heilbronn with further zones in Austria. All data is stored in Germany or Austria, the platform is C5-certified and complies with GDPR and KRITIS requirements. STACKIT is positioned as a sovereign European alternative to US hyperscalers.
