Photoroom is a French AI photo-editing product founded in 2019 by Matthieu Rouif and Eliot Andres and headquartered in Paris, backed by investors including Balderton Capital, Y Combinator, Aglaé and Meta. It is aimed at e-commerce sellers and marketers, combining AI background removal, retouching, object removal, AI-generated backgrounds, product staging, virtual models, batch processing and 1,000+ templates in mobile, web and API products. A free plan offers 250 exports per month with limited AI; paid Pro starts around USD 12.99/month, with Max and Ultra tiers (Ultra ×1 to ×10) for higher-volume catalogues, plus a separate Photoroom API for developers.
