Black Forest Labs (BFL) is a German generative-AI company headquartered in Freiburg im Breisgau, founded in 2024 by Robin Rombach, Andreas Blattmann and Patrick Esser, formerly of Stability AI. It develops the FLUX family of text-to-image and editing models, including FLUX.1 [schnell] (12B-parameter rectified flow transformer, distilled to 1–4 sampling steps) and FLUX.2 variants up to 4 MP at flexible aspect ratios, with [klein] released as open weights under Apache 2.0. Models are available as open weights on Hugging Face and via a hosted API; FLUX.1.1 [pro] is priced around USD 0.04/image and FLUX.2 [klein] from USD 0.014/image.
