About adidas Running (Runtastic)
adidas Running (formerly Runtastic) is the running-tracking app of adidas, the German sportswear group headquartered in Herzogenaurach. Runtastic was founded in 2009 in Pasching, Upper Austria by Florian Gschwandtner, Christian Kaar, René Giretzlehner and Alfred Luger out of a university project, and was acquired by adidas in 2015 for around €220 million; the apps were rebranded to adidas Running and adidas Training in 2019. Features include GPS run tracking, training plans, voice coaching, music integration and a social feed. From mid-2025 development consolidates into adidas offices in Herzogenaurach, Amsterdam and Zaragoza after the Austrian offices were closed.
