DATEV eG is a German registered cooperative founded in 1966 in Nuremberg by 65 tax agents to share computer-based accounting services. It now employs around 9,000 people across its Nuremberg HQ and 22 branch offices and serves more than 920,000 customers, processing roughly 2 million business assessments and over 14 million payslips each month. DATEV builds software for tax consultants, auditors and lawyers covering financial accounting, payroll, cost accounting and business advisory, and is the de-facto data-exchange standard in German accounting. Membership is restricted to tax, accounting and legal professionals, keeping the cooperative member-controlled.
